Black Necked Crane Festival Tour

One of the beautiful festivals held at Gangtey monastery has great significance. An arrival of endangered Black Necked Crane begins the winter season. On arrival and their departure, the bird-sensitive bird circle three times over the monastery believed that the birds honored the three sacred jewels of Buddhism and showed gratitude for their care and protection during their stay at the valley. The festival is held every 11th November of every year, coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty the 4th King, concept on spreading awareness of Black Necked Crane and culture and tradition of the valley and its habitats. Paro, Punakha Gangtey & Paro

Day 1 Paro – Thimphu

Enjoy the spectacular view of Himalayan ranges on your flight to Bhutan and Drive to the capital city of Thimphu through the beautiful landscapes following the Paro Chu and Thimphu Chu. Make a stop at Tachog Lhakhang, built by legendary bridge-builder Thangtong Gyelpo. After a visit to the National Memorial Chorten, the Buddha Dordenma statue giantly sits atop the hills overlooking the Thimphu valley. Visit charming Thimphu city before you leave for the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 Thimphu

Start your day visiting majestic Thimphu Tashichho Dzong, seats for some ministries, His majesty’s secretariat, and the central monk body. Then, see the oldest changangkha Lhakhang, famous for getting auspicious names for newborn babies and blessings for the children, followed by the Folk Heritage Museum and the National Textile Museum. Finally, visit National Takin reserve Centre before you leave to hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 Thimphu – Punakha

Drive to magical Punakha valley. Stopover at Dochula pass to enjoy the panoramic view of Himalayan ranges and the beautiful sights of 108 stupas. Visit the famous fertility temple located at the hilltop on your way to Punakha valley. Reaching to the Punakha, visiting majestic Punakha dzong, stands in the confluences of two rivers and the longest suspension bridge of the valley adorned with colorful prayer flags. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4 Punakha – Phobjikha valley

It reached you to the Phobjikha valley, ascending 3000- meter mountain passes and valleys with panoramic views. First, witness the Black Necked Festival engaging with the local people. Next, visit the important and biggest Nyingmapa monastery located at the hilltop offering a superb panoramic view of the valley. Finally, immerse into the valley hiking through the pine forest and the breeding ground of endangered black-necked cranes. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5 Phobjikha Valley Halt

Start your day driving to Longley valley, a small beautiful valley with beautiful landscapes. People who settled here are depending on domestic animals for their survival. Then, start your hike through the lush rhododendron forest, ascending to the top of the hill. Continuing your trek, you will be able to see the beautiful panoramic view of Phobjikha valley. Having packed lunch at the hilltop enjoying the surroundings is a lovely experience. Then, visit nearby temples on your back to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6 Phobjikha Valley – Paro

Retrace your journey back to iconic Paro valley crossing the Dochula Pass and Simtokha Dzong, the first dzong (a fortress built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. Make a stop on your journey as you get good sights to enjoy the spectacular view. Then, stop at historic Dumtse Lhakhang, built by legendary architect Thangthong Gyelpo. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 7 Explore Paro

Unfold your day visiting the oldest Kyichu monastery, one of the temples built by the Tibetan emperor in the 7th century. Then, visit majestic Paro Rinpong dzong and National Museum, which offers a beautiful sight of arts and paints, antique thangkas, textiles, weapons and armor, and a natural assortment of natural and historic artifacts. Finally, walk into the Paro town decorated with handicraft shops before you leave for the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 8 Explore Paro

Hike to famous Takshang monastery stands on a sheer cliff with an elevation of 3000 m. Discover the legendary history and meditate for a while. Then, walk back and visit the oldest Kyichu, Lhakhang. One of the 108 sites established by the Tibetan Emperor in the 7th century and Spend some time in the beautiful Paro town with our representatives. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9 Departure

Today, our representatives will escort you to the Paro international airport for your departure.
